PostSubject: Red/White Haste - What do you think?   Mon Nov 02, 2009 11:11 pm

I am looking to build a Red/White Haste deck and looking for insight from you guys to determine if it is viable before I spend $50 on the Arid Mesas and $21 on the Ajani Vengeants that I will need.

Creatures = 22
4 X Elite Vanguard
4 X Goblin Bushwhacker
4 X Goblin Guide
2 X Hellkite Charger
2 X Ball Lightning
3 X Rakka Mar
3 X Ranger of Eos

Spells = 14
4 X Lightning Bolt
3 X Volcanic Fallout
4 X Path to Exile
3 X Ajani Vengeant

Land = 22
4 X Arid Mesa
7 X Plains
9 X Mountains

Sideboard = 15
4 X Harms Way
4 X Brave the Elements
2 X Hellspark Elemental
4 X Burst Lightning
1 X Day of Judgment

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i prolly wouldn't play volcanic fallout becasue it kills all of your creatures too. i would personally replace it with intimidation bolt. i would move the burst lightning to the main deck to replace the path, and take the brave the elements out of the sideboard just becasue they only help your vanguard and ranger of eos. i think that goblin ruinblaster would fit nicely into the deck....a 2/1 haste for 2R and you kick it for R to destroy a non-basic land. i also think that you should have some teetering peeks in there to pump your goblin guide or vanguard on turn 2 to hit for 4. that's just what i would do.

I think you'll be struggling to cast a ball lightning if you get it in your hand. Goblin Ruinblaster would fit into that spot. Rakka is a fun card, but i'm not sure about her synergy with the deck. She's a really easy creature to answer. Teetering Peaks is worth a look for sure. Are you using Boros Bushwacker as a base for this deck? If not, i'd suggest checking out the board for that style of deck on MTGsalvation.com. They probably have a lot of different insight for this style of deck.

Maindeck:

Creatures
4 Elite Vanguard
2 Goblin Bushwhacker
4 Goblin Guide
4 Kor Skyfisher
4 Plated Geopede
3 Ranger Of Eos
4 Steppe Lynx

Instants
4 Burst Lightning
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Path To Exile

Basic Lands
3 Mountain
4 Plains

Lands
4 Arid Mesa
4 Marsh Flats
4 Scalding Tarn
4 Teetering Peaks

This is a similar decklist I found from a top 8 in Philly. I am guessing this is what you were basing yours on? I think going for a more dedicated aggro strategy might be worth consideration. Being able to search up a bushwaker and steppe Lynx with Ranger and have a fetch or two to crack could be a huge damage swing. I do realise the 12 fetchlands can be quite the hurdle to overcome, and without them geopede and lynx get significantly less impressive. I do think that perhaps Terramorphic expanse can act as a budget alternative for 4 slots as it gets the 2x landfall triggers as well, but they really are the only expensive cards in the deck as the others are all commons. I like the idea of Hellkite charger maybe in the sideboard if you need more reach late game.

I've been playing the list that Ryan posted to great success. My list went -4 Burst Lightning, -1 Vanguard, and -1 Teetering Peaks for +3 Harm's Way, +1 Ranger of Eos, and +2 Ancient Ziggurat. Harm's Way is better against Jund than Burst Lightning for creature wars and such, while anything less than 4 Ranger of Eos is just wrong I think. The card almost allows you to minicombo a lot of the time in the midgame. Ancient Ziggurat really helps get the mana you need down and you're only running 10-12 other spells anyway and they all cost one. Teetering Peeks with Kor Skyfisher is ridiculous as well.

Overall, the deck has at least a 50/50 matchup with Jund, possibly better with Harm's Way and is much faster than the other aggro decks in the format. It's too fast for the control decks that are currently trying to take shape and comes back from a Day of Judgment better than any deck I've ever seen because Ranger of Eos is just awesome like that.
